Place value is a concept that helps us understand the meaning and value of each digit in a number. It tells us how much a digit is worth based on its position in the number.  For example, in the number 123, the digit 1 is worth 100 , the digit 2 is worth 20 , and the digit 3 is worth 3 . We can write this number as 100 + 20 + 3 using place value. To find the place value of a digit, we can use a place value chart that shows the names and values of each position in a number.
